Student Responsibilities

Once students enroll into an online course they must contact their instructor via email BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.  Students are responsible for meeting this requirement and fulfilling the course requirements as described via the course syllabus provided by the instructor.  Please be reminded that online courses are on a full semester schedule as traditional and Internet-assisted classes.

ASUMH online courses are conducted through the Blackboard format. Some instructors may require chats in which you must be logged into Blackboard at a specific time, but the bulk of your work, if not all, is done at your convenience, within the framework set by the instructor. These "chat" sessions may be similar to what would be called "office hours" in a traditional setting.  The instructor is there for you in real time during these periods, if needed.  Some instructors will require weekly amounts of work to be done with due dates for you to be counted as "attending,” but you can do this work within this week at times that are convenient to you.

Some instructors of online courses will require proctored exams.  A proctored exam is one that is overseen by an impartial individual (called a proctor) who monitors or supervises a student while he or she is taking an exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process. Students should check with the online course instructor BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS or check the course syllabus for any requirements about proctored exams.

If a student cannot travel to ASUMH to take a required proctored exam, it is the responsibility of the student to find a qualified proctor to administer the required exam. Contact your online course instructor for additional requirements.

An "appropriate exam proctor" might be one of the following:
 1.  A staff member of a testing office at an accredited local school, college, or university
 2.  A teacher/professor of an accredited local college or university
 3.  An administrator of an accredited local college or university
 4.  Military base education office
OR check with your online course instructor for additional appropriate exam proctoring sites.

Enrolled ASUMH students in any format of course are assigned a Blackboard account and a student email account. All Instructors use the student ASUMH email account as a communication tool for their classes.   It is the responsibility of the student to check your student email account regularly for emails from your instructors
