Anette Pendergrass

Even with six children at home ranging in age from 3 to 15 years, Anette Pendergrass knew she wanted to do something to improve her career.  She was working part-time at Baxter Healthcare when she heard her coworkers talking about a new college opening in Mountain Home.  She started with computer classes and as she finished a two-year degree in Business Technology, the Jonesboro campus of ASU brought classes to ASUMH for a Bachelor of Science in Management.  After completing this degree too, with an emphasis in Human Resources and a new-found love for learning, she then enrolled in the MBA program and just kept on going.  Pendergrass credits the relationships she was able to develop with both traditional and non-traditional students and the faculty as some of her best experiences at ASUMH.  “While I was at ASUMH, there was always a sense of family.  I was told about LeQuita Foster in the Financial Aid department before I even enrolled at ASUMH, and sure enough, she was there for me and treated me like family. LeQuita helped me get over an initial fear I had that I did not belong in college.”  Currently, Pendergrass is the Human Resources Manager for a large manufacturing company in Mountain Home.  She has been there for six years, and has even been given an opportunity to teach at ASUMH.  Pendergrass has a lot of personal knowledge she could share with others who are looking for ways to improve their lives and offers this advice: “always have goals in mind in everything you do.  Plan for short-term goals first and once you reach one, replace it with another.  Before you know it, you will have obtained your long-term goals!”  This lifelong learner is certainly an example how goal setting pays off!
