America's News With unmatched U.S. news content from local, regional, and national sources, this resource is the largest of its kind. Its diverse source types include printed and online newspapers, blogs, journals, newswires, broadcast transcripts and videos. Explore a specific issue or event through the detailed coverage provided by local reporting or compare a wide variety of viewpoints from across the country on topics such as politics, business, health, sports, cultural activities and people.

The Columbia Granger's World of Poetry - Covers literary information about poets and poetry; includes both full-text articles and citations.

CQ Electronic Library - Research tool covering topics in the social and political arena; offers in-depth coverage.

Credo Reference - Offers online access nearly 400 reference books; examples of the type of books include: dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, factbooks, census information and much more. A great place to find quick facts and basic background information on virtually any topic.

eBooks on EBSCOhost - A collection of over 100,000 full-text electronic books covering a wide variety of topics.

EBSCOhost - Powerful online reference system that offers a variety of proprietary full-text databases and popular databases from leading information providers. Covers virtually every area of academic study.

Access to portions of the EBSCO suite of databases is made possible by a grant from U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Arkansas State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.

Encyclopedia Britannica - Provides answers to a multitude of questions with standard encyclopedia entries and leads users to additional information about their topics through related articles, links to outside Web sites, and bibliographies.

Films on Demand - Web-based digital video delivery service that allows you to view streaming videos from Films Media Group anytime, anywhere, 24/7! Choose from thousands of high-quality educational titles in dozens of subject areas. Special collections include videos from ABC News, BBC, Cambridge Educational, Films for the Humanities, NBC News and PBS, just to name a few.

FirstSearch - Use to find books, articles, films, computer software, and other types of material on the subject needed.

Foundation Center Resources (use restricted to the library)

  • Foundation Directory Online is a primary resource for locating information on foundations and grants.

  • Foundation Grants to Individuals Online provides hard-to-locate information on foundations that give grants to individuals.
  • Philanthropy In/Sight combines the Foundation Center’s rich data on grantmakers and their grants with Google maps to tell the story of philanthropy. Choosing from a wide range of customization options, users can quickly create maps that reveal patterns of giving and funding relationships as never before. 

    Gale Discovering Collection - The relevance of people, places, events and primary source documents to lessons becomes clear when students can view them within their historical context. Discovering Collection, an online database, helps make that connection with content and resources culled from unique Discovering and other acclaimed Gale titles.

    Global Road Warrior - Offers cultural and country overview information on 175 countries; includes information on demographics, society and culture, health and medical, communications, transportation and much more. Great resource for those doing research on aspects of foreign countries or for those planning to travel internationally.

    JSTOR - A multidisciplinary full text scholarly journal archive that offers back issues of journals, some as far back as the 1800s. As JSTOR's main focus is archiving scholarly journals, you generally will not find the most current issues of journals here but you will find articles from older issues of journals that may not be available in other databases. The library currently subscribes to the following archival collections: Arts & Sciences I, V, VII.

    LAWCHEK - A reference source to assist the public with a basic understanding of the law.

    LearningExpress Library - Source for test preparation materials and interactive practice exams based on official tests.

    LexisNexis - Allows easy access through the Web to thousands of full-text newspapers, magazines, journals, and legal information.

    Literary Reference Center Plus - A comprehensive literary reference database that combines information from over 11,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, images, audios, videos, study guides, and other unique literary sources not available anywhere else, which provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day.

    Mango Languages - An online language-learning system that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian and more. You will need to create a free account the first time you use Mango if you want to save your progress as you work through the lessons. iPhone users: Mango also offers a free app for learning on the go!

    Maps Online - A to Z Maps Online is the world's largest subscription-based database of proprietary, royalty-free world, continent, country, and state maps. Included in the 4,000+ maps are: political maps, physical maps, outline maps, population maps, precipitation maps, climate maps, and other thematic maps. New maps are added to the collection every month.

    ProQuest - Provides powerful, convenient search and retrieval, right from the desktop, to one of the world's largest collections of information, including summaries of articles from over 8,000 publications, with many in full-text, full-image format.

Please take advantage of this service any time you have a question about how to begin your research, where to find sources for an assignment, how to access library resources from off-campus or any other academic-related questions you might have.

    Library Database Tutorial

    The library now offers a free non-credit library database tutorial via Blackboard for any student enrolled at ASUMH. Features PowerPoint presentations on how to use library databases, short quizzes to help you master the content, and printable help sheets.

    Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) - Bibliographic database provides coverage on subjects such as librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more to anyone interested in libraries and information management.
