ASUMH TUTORING SERVICES

The Schliemann Tutoring Center at Arkansas State University Mountain Home is now located inside the Norma Wood Library on the first floor of Roller Hall. We offer in-person as well as virtual tutoring, free of charge to students enrolled at ASUMH. Fill out the Tutoring Request Form to schedule a tutoring session. If you have a need for tutoring outside of regular Tutoring Center hours, contact Alathea Daniels (see Online Tutoring, below). You can also call or stop by the Tutoring Center to schedule a session.

Walk-in tutoring requests are allowed during Tutoring Center hours when tutors are available, but we suggest that students make an appointment in advance to be sure time can be dedicated to their session.

Tutoring is available to ASUMH students for core academic classes as well as basic computer & study skills.

The primary goals of the Schliemann Tutoring Center at Arkansas State University Mountain Home are:

  • To provide overall academic support for students needing assistance.

  • To create a comfortable environment in which learning can take place.

  • To encourage students’ self-confidence.

  • To provide successful learning experiences.

  • To help students familiarize themselves with ASUMH Banner, Blackboard, MyMathLab and other computer programs that are used in their course studies.

Tutoring sessions are designed to help students develop their skills not only in the classroom, but for studying in general. Tutoring methods tailor activities to students’ learning needs and styles, empowering them to take responsibility for both their successes and their failures. We hope that as students accomplish this, they will gain an increase in confidence and the ability to learn independently, and ASUMH will enjoy the accomplishment of greater student success and retention.

ONLINE TUTORING

We use the Zoom video-conferencing platform for one-on-one virtual tutoring, which allows you to easily work with your tutor and share relevant documents and websites. It is simple to set up, and we've found it works quite well. Flexibly scheduled tutoring sessions will be conducted every day of the week (including weekends). This is a Title III program. To schedule a Zoom session, you may contact Alathea by email at jdaniels@asumh.edu, call (870) 508-6308, or text her at (870) 406-6480. Please include your name, available times, and the class(es) you need help with.
