ASUMH adds AWS Certification for welding graduates

Arkansas State University - Mountain Home (ASUMH) recently joined the American Welding Society (AWS). Through AWS’s award-winning program, SENSE, all ASUMH welding students who graduate December 2016 and after will have the opportunity to certify as a Level 1 Entry Welder and a Level 2 Advanced Welder.

SENSE, Schools Excelling through National Skills, offers administrative standards and curriculum guidelines for the qualification of entry-level, advanced, and expert welders. Joining SENSE brings national validation to the ASUMH welding program. Benefits to SENSE accreditation for schools are enhanced credibility by demonstrating that the welding program meets national standards, increased potential for program funding from Perkins and other sources, enhanced potential for student recruitment through demonstrated program excellence and enhanced employment opportunities for graduates.

Students who pass the certification exam receive a certificate or diploma from a SENSE accredited program providing them an important credential for employment. Students are also assured the training received through the ASUMH welding program is based on national standards and guidelines.

Joining SENSE also provides benefits to employers by letting them know that ASUMH graduates possess the skills required for success. Less need for on-the-job training reduces the cost of employment and increases competitiveness of local employers.
